Cadillac
Even through many reinventions, the Cadillac logo has remained distinctive. The original crest began as the family crest of the Cadillac family. Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac was the founder of the city of Detroit, whose lineage, according to him, stretched back to old French royalty. Whether this is true is up for debate, but it’s made the logo no less distinctive.
While the original crest displayed a crown over a shield, a redesign many years later made the crown a part of the shield, and added a wreath to frame it. This became the most enduring version of the Cadillac logo and was the basis for their most recent redesign. The current logo makes things more abstract by simplifying the details, removing the crown, and giving the logo a sheen. Even now, the Cadillac is one of the most distinctive logos on any car sales lot.
Ford
The Ford Motor Company is one the best known names in car manufacturing worldwide, and the Ford logo is one of the most simple and recognizable. It’s also one of the longest-lasting. The logo was designed by Harold Willis, a friend of Henry Ford’s, with a font rarely used for logos at the time. Since 1909, the Ford logo has remained largely unchanged, with only minor tweaks made to the shading or the color. The Ford logo is a lesson in how simplicity is one of the most effective tools in branding.
GMC
Much like the Ford logo, the GMC logo is distinctive in its simplicity. The bold, colorful letters of the General Motors Company emblazoned countless vehicle grills, looking like a stamp of approval when it comes to manufacturing quality.
The design of the three bold, heavy letters has come to symbolize the weighty, durable trucks that GMC built their name on.
